taking. Be they serpents or whales.
"Whale off!" the bow oarsman shouted.
"Stand by your iron," was ordered, turning toward the whale. The harpooner lifted his long iron lance and upon the call "Give it to him" the harpoon would sail to its mark. The stricken whale would lurch forward and give the men a mighty struggle, but in the end, a dead whale floated on its back.
