A VOYAGE IN TIME

#4 The Humpback Whale is blackish in color with some white on its under parts.  At a 45 ft. length, it would weigh approximately 90,000 lbs., yield 33 barrels of oil and its heart would weigh about 425 lbs.  Emitting long, ethereal "songs," the humpback controls its motion with huge, wing like flippers.  It arches its back sharply to begin its dive, displaying an outstanding dorsal fin.  The tendency of the humpback to  cluster around islands and hug shorelines has made it one of the easiest whales to hunt.  Spending the winter in tropical regions,  it migrates with the seasons and according to the abundance of food.  The humpback has no known breeding season.  Its young are born eleven months after mating, with an average weight of 3,000 lbs. and approximately 15 to 16 feet in length.
