A VOYAGE IN TIME

#3 Also referred to as "blubber hunter", the Whaler was the whaleman's home away from home.  A cruise in a whaler is often spoken of as a "sailor's horror".  The forecastle was home for twenty-five to forty men for three or four years.

One of the most successful "blubber hunters" of her day was the Charles W. Morgan, presently berth at Mystic Seaport.  The Morgan was built in Jethro Hillman's shipyard, at the foot of Hillman Street, New Bedford in 1841.
