A VOYAGE IN TIME
#17 A platform made of 3 wooden planks and an iron railing was lowered over the whale. The men working on the cutting stage, tied heavy ropes around their waists to keep from falling into the water. Once the first cut was made, blood gushed out of the whales side which caused the water to fill with hungry sharks. With slits cut in the blubber just behind the eyes, the blubber hook was placed through the slits. More slits were then cut along the whales body down to the flukes. As the blanket piece was raised to the deck, the men on the cutting stage would hook away the blubber with long fleecing spades. As the blubber was being stripped away, the whales body turned slowly, unwinding like the skin of an orange being cut in a single piece. Thus came the term "Rolling The Blanket". A WHALE OF A TAIL Cost per Cup Plate is $12.00. S/H/P $3.50 Insurance $2.70
